Register for Catechesis 2019
Wednesday, January 30, 2019, 8:00am - Wednesday, March 6, 2019, 5:00pm
“Catechesis” means “instruction” in Greek. (Christians have strange terms for everything.) And it’s the name we at Redeemer have given to our new twist on an old, old tradition. Every year, for the 40 days Lent (the season between Ash Wednesday and Easter), a group forms and meets on the Wednesday evening of each week in order to explore Christian spirituality and faith. Some people are preparing for baptism and some for confirmation; others want to be recentered as followers of Jesus. Each catechumen (the name for someone who participates in Catechesis) is assigned a sponsor from the community—a fellow traveller further on in the faith. Catechesis kicks off on the morning of Sunday, March 3. And the whole journey of Catechesis crescendos on the evening of April 20 with the Great Vigil of Easter, a beautiful and ancient liturgy marking the night before Easter Sunday morning.
Registration is now open. If you have questions or would like to sign-up, talk to David Howells (our Priest-in-Charge) or Nate Wall (our Scholar-in-Residence) or e-mail catechesis@theredeemer.ca.
