Luke 19\, Investment\, and Crucifixion Economics What if the parable that Jesus tells right after the story of Zacchaeus is not about using our gifts well but is actually literally about how we invest our money? And what if the story of Zacchaeus provides insight into the implications of such investment? DESCRIPTION:Sunday Explorations is our occasional series of discussions on selected topics\, Scriptural reflection\, book talks\, and more on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM in the Board Room downstairs (with coffee on offer). The sessions are a wonderful chance to get to know one another better and to share questions\, concerns\, and insights about our faith and how we live it. \n\n\nJune 1 – Thinking About the Bible\nWhat kind of book is the Bible? Why does the church receive it as the word of God? Why these ancient texts and not other ones? And what purpose does the Bible serve in the life and work of the church? We will begin to explore these important questions with the help of Luke 24:13-35 (the story of the road to Emmaus). We look forward to welcoming Stephen Chester as our speaker. \nStephen Chester has taught New Testament at Wycliffe College since 2019\, having taught previously at seminaries in Glasgow\, Scotland and Chicago\, USA. He is the author of several books on Pauline theology\, most recently Paul through the Eyes of the Reformers: Living Under Grace (Eerdmans\, 2025). As well as experience of different countries\, Stephen has experience of a variety of denominational traditions and is ordained in the Church of Scotland. He and his wife Betsy live in East York and have two adult sons in the USA. \n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Julian of Norwich is a beloved figure of feminist spirituality. She wrote the first book in English that we know was authored by a woman: an account of visions she received during a near-death experience.\n\nBut what was her life really like\, in the middle of a complex\, prosperous medieval city? Medieval studies scholar and member of Redeemer David Townsend will talk about his recently published novel\, The Ram in the Thicket\, which he wrote to explore that question. Sharon Kirby will read selections from the book. Copies of the book will be available after the talk. In the main worship space on Wednesday\, December 10 at 7 PM.\n\nIf you can’t join in the church building\, please participate online through our YouTube Channel.
