Maggie and others will reflect on experiences of love\, solidarity\, hope\, mutual support\, and the enlivening presence of the Holy Spirit in and around her congregation and the tent community it hosted\, before its forced removal by the City of Toronto.\n\nThe event is the first in an occasional series on the theme of “Building More Compassionate Communities. It is free and open to all\, but donations to the Church of the Redeemer’s Common Table ministry will be gratefully received. This event takes place in the church building and is also livestreamed through our YouTube channel.

DESCRIPTION:Sunday Explorations is our occasional series of discussions on selected topics\, Scriptural reflection\, book talks\, and more on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM in the Board Room downstairs (with coffee on offer). The sessions are a wonderful chance to get to know one another better and to share questions\, concerns\, and insights about our faith and how we live it. \n\n\nJune 1 – Thinking About the Bible\nWhat kind of book is the Bible? Why does the church receive it as the word of God? Why these ancient texts and not other ones? And what purpose does the Bible serve in the life and work of the church? We will begin to explore these important questions with the help of Luke 24:13-35 (the story of the road to Emmaus). We look forward to welcoming Stephen Chester as our speaker. \nStephen Chester has taught New Testament at Wycliffe College since 2019\, having taught previously at seminaries in Glasgow\, Scotland and Chicago\, USA. He is the author of several books on Pauline theology\, most recently Paul through the Eyes of the Reformers: Living Under Grace (Eerdmans\, 2025). As well as experience of different countries\, Stephen has experience of a variety of denominational traditions and is ordained in the Church of Scotland. He and his wife Betsy live in East York and have two adult sons in the USA. \n\n\n

In this session\, Dr. Joseph Mangina will lead us in a conversation about the Christian church\, both its nature (what it is) and its mission (why it is). Is it still possible to confess faith in the church\, in light of its many failures? These are some of the questions we will explore in this gathering on the Sunday after Easter. \n\nProf. Joseph Mangina\, a PhD graduate of Yale University\, has been teaching at Wycliffe College since 1998. One of Dr. Mangina’s chief interests is the church\, in particular ecumenical theology. Every couple of years\, he helps teach a course in Rome pertaining to relations between Anglicans and Roman Catholics. He and his wife Elisa are longtime members and choristers at the Church of St. Martin-in-the-Fields.

How do we move forward toward it in faith\, when all we can see are the next few steps in front of us\, in a dark time? How do we maintain trust that the path before us will lead us where we are meant to go?\n\nWalking a labyrinth is an ancient spiritual technology that can teach us these lessons through direct experience. It’s a way to focus attention\, and at the same time trust that it’s ok when our minds wander. This morning we’ll talk about mindful walking\, as preparation for walking a labyrinth together next to Holy Trinity Church this coming Wednesday\, December 11. DESCRIPTION:Sunday Explorations is our occasional series of discussions on selected topics\, Scriptural reflection\, book talks\, and more on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM in the Board Room downstairs (with coffee on offer). The sessions are a wonderful chance to get to know one another better and to share questions\, concerns\, and insights about our faith and how we live it. \n\nSunday\, November 17\nCanadian visual artist\, Karen Tamminga-Paton\, created “Peace Talk\,” an interactive art installation that invites us to speak words of repair into the ruins of war. “Peace Talk” will be at Redeemer on November 17\, and we will take time to engage contemplatively with it and write our own words of repair. Note that we’ll meet on the main floor for this session.

We will explore the history\, purpose\, and practice of this ancient prayer.

We will be exploring Fr McNichols’ images and icons.
