DESCRIPTION:Sunday Explorations is our occasional series of discussions on selected topics\, Scriptural reflection\, book talks\, and more on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM in the Board Room downstairs (with coffee on offer). The sessions are a wonderful chance to get to know one another better and to share questions\, concerns\, and insights about our faith and how we live it. \n\n\nApril 27\n\n\nThinking about…What is the church\, and why should anyone care? In this session\, Dr. Joseph Mangina will lead us in a conversation about the Christian church\, both its nature (what it is) and its mission (why it is). Is it still possible to confess faith in the church\, in light of its many failures? These are some of the questions we will explore in this gathering on the Sunday after Easter. \n\nProf. Joseph Mangina\, a PhD graduate of Yale University\, has been teaching at Wycliffe College since 1998. One of Dr. Mangina’s chief interests is the church\, in particular ecumenical theology. Every couple of years\, he helps teach a course in Rome pertaining to relations between Anglicans and Roman Catholics. He and his wife Elisa are longtime members and choristers at the Church of St. Martin-in-the-Fields.

SUMMARY:Yeshu Satsang at 6 PM
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, April 27 beginning at 5:40 PM with sitar and harmonium prelude music\, and the satsang beginning at 6 PM (note the earlier time!)\, we welcome Yeshu Satsang for an evening of Indian devotional music and meditation. \nOur friends at Yeshu Satsang note: \nIn India\, Yeshu is Hindi for “Jesus.” Satsang means “gathering of the truth.” Typically\, satsangs in India are gatherings of people who worship together\, often using devotional songs called bhajans and kirtans. You are invited to join us in worshipping Jesus in an Indian way. We’ll be sitting on the floor\, with incense\, flowers and oil lamps\, surrounded by the sounds of sitar\, tabla\, and other Indian and western instruments. The song books provided are in Hindi (with English translations) written so that you can join in. \nAs in the past during Easter season\, we will share the Maha Prasad ceremony\, breaking a coconut in memory of Christ’s death. If you have not experienced this before\, you can watch the ceremony in this video for the song Yeshu Raja filmed during the pandemic when it was not possible to meet in person for the Good Friday satsang in 2020. \nPlease note that there will be no live stream of this service. \n
