Born in Glasgow, Scotland into a Roman Catholic family, David came to Canada with his parents as a child, and grew up in the GTA. David joined the Anglican Church of Canada in his early twenties, and answered God’s call to ordained ministry shortly thereafter. He holds both a Bachelor’s degree in Theology and a Master of Divinity from Huron University College at the University of Western Ontario.
For almost a decade, David has faithfully served as a Priest in the Diocese of Toronto (serving initially after ordination as the Vicar & Priest-in-charge of St Paul’s Cathedral in the Diocese of Huron). Before arriving at the Church of the Redeemer, David led the successful reboot of the Church of the Transfiguration and the planting of a new evening community, the Water’s Edge.
David has become a public advocate for the de-stigmatization of people suffering with mental health and addiction issues, and is quickly learning the challenges (and opportunities) this presents, when he himself is one of the examples. David believes that God is above all else, faithful, most especially to the suffering, the marginalized and the disenfranchised. He believes that God will be faithful to all of us in Her motley crew.
David is currently working on a book called “Redemptive Trauma: Grace out of Darkness” - a personal memoir seeking to reconcile the God of abundant love with the darkness of childhood trauma and abuse, and the adult impact (and grace) discovered.
David has served multiple terms on Diocesan Council and the Diocesan Executive Board, and currently represents the Diocese of Toronto as a member of the Provincial Synod Executive and General Synod’s “Faith Worship, and Ministry” Committee.
David and Heather are proud co-parents of their beloved son Rory.
