Violence, Polarization, and Hope for a Better Future
Wednesday, June 26, 7:30pm
How can we begin to comprehend the horrific violence and polarization that now grip Israel and Palestine? How can we resist the demonizing oversimplifications that characterize so many current responses? How can we in some small way ourselves advocate for peace, and for a future of compassion and mutual respect?
How can we parse apart revulsion against the actions of Hamas from the phenomena of Islamophobia? How can we parse apart condemnation of the actions of the current Israeli government and Defense Forces from the phenomena of anti-Semitism? How can we as Christians best express our solidarity with Jewish and Muslim fellow citizens, friends and neighbours? What grounds do we have for hope?
Please join us for a talk by Jon Allen, former Canadian Ambassador to Israel and Senior Fellow at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, with discussion to follow, Wednesday, June 26 at 7:30 PM. The event will be held in the church as well as available through a live stream at the link below.
