Church of the Redeemer is committed to being with the poor at this very difficult time when so many support systems are being closed down. While practising the latest recommendations from the Department of Public Health, we are offering the following to those in need.
Effective immediately, we are handing out meals-to-go at the main entrance of the church on Bloor Street from 8 – 11:45 AM. Staff and volunteers will assist anyone who needs help on the front steps.
- Breakfast: Brown bags including fruit, yogurt with plastic spoon, pastry
- Lunch: Container including a ‘main’ and two ‘sides’. Mains will range from a hot meal to a sandwich. Sides will be vegetable based. A water or pop and plastic cutlery will be included as necessary.
- Washrooms near the main doors will be made available and will be cleaned every 30 minutes for safety.
In addition, teams are walking the streets in our neighbourhood with hot and/or cold meals, toiletries, clothing items etc. for those in need.
We intend to keep operating in this manner for as long as possible. Should circumstances change, we would continue to offer food at the door, albeit with reduced meal options and perhaps reduced hours. A complete shutdown would be implemented as a last resort.
If you would like to volunteer to help with this outreach to the most vulnerable among us or to donate non-perishable food items, please contact us. Financial support will be gratefully received through CanadaHelps.
