On Sunday, May 5, it was announced that our area bishop, The Rt Rev’d Kevin Robertson, has appointed The Rev’d Canon Steven Mackison as our new Incumbent effective August 1. The Selection Committee is grateful for the support of Bishop Kevin over the past months as we have prepared for today’s announcement.
In making the announcement of the new Incumbent, the Selection Committee stated that “Steven brings to Redeemer 22 years of experience of ordained ministry and shares our commitment to inspired worship, social justice, and creating a diverse and inclusive community. He has a passion for liturgical excellence, a demonstrated commitment to collaborating with indigenous communities and other faith communities, and a genuine ‘heart for the poor’. The Selection Committee was deeply struck by how much his experience and values resonate with our ‘Redeemer ethos’. We are confident that when you meet him that you will feel the same way. Steven has forwarded a letter to the community so that we can learn more about him and why he’s excited to be returning to Redeemer. In part, he says, ”I believe that Redeemer is a place where longing and belonging meet, a place where radical welcome and relentless hospitality have created something beautiful and sacred. I look forward to renewing old friendships and making new ones. I am excited about embracing our ministry, together, in August when I arrive ‘at the corner’.”
We look forward to welcoming our new Incumbent in August.
