Get involved (Simple Alternative)

Part of what makes Redeemer a vibrant church is the generous volunteerism that powers it. Over time, people find themselves called—or just curious—to get more involved, either in our church itself, or in some of the ways we try to serve our local community and the world.

We invite you to explore the different ways you can volunteer at Redeemer. A great place to start is talking to our Getting Connected team members; you’ll find them wearing blue nametags after both the 9.30am and 11.15am services, ready to answer your questions.

Care and Justice

Jesus lived a life radical compassion, and pushed back against the injustices of the world he lived in. We believe he calls on us to do the same. We are a ‘hands on’ church that wants to contribute back to our neighbourhood and beyond. Thanks to dedicated members, we have created and nurtured a number of active programs and we’re always interested to see what you’ll want to do next. Learn more about some of the work we’re doing by clicking the links below.

  • Drop-In Program

Our drop-in program is designed to serve those in our neighbourhood who are struggling to find work and stable adequate housing, and related challenges. It is a safe place that offers some shelter, a warm meal and good company. The program brings together staff, volunteers and donors.

  • Refugee Settlement

In 2014, in the midst of a growing global refugee crisis, volunteers from the Redeemer organized a program to sponsor refugees hoping to make Toronto their home.

  • Aboriginal Issues Working Group

Our Aboriginal Issues Working Group is made up of parishioners and friends who are interested in the complex and myriad issues surrounding indigenous Canadians, and in particular relating to our urban Native neighbours.

Helping out @ Redeemer

As an active church, the Redeemer has a number of programs, projects and functions that depend on volunteers. If you’re interested in ways you can get involved, or are feeling a call to contribute and deepen your walk with our community, we would love to hear from you.

  • Contributing to Services

There are many ways to contribute to Redeemer’s services, from greeting parishioners, reading scripture, and more. Additionally, dedicated volunteers are at the heart of our Kids @ Redeemer program during Sunday morning’s 9.30 service throughout the school year. If you feel called to take a deeper role in our services, please get in touch.

  • Hospitality

As an active church, we have discovered that breaking bread together before meetings and events helps us to grow as a community, to know each other better and provide a deeper time of fellowship. Our hospitality team gathers as needed to provide meals for parish events. If you are interested in volunteering, please get in touch.

  • Pastoral Care Team

Our Pastoral Care team assists clergy in caring for those in our community in need of support and connection.

Leadership, boards and committees

Our church is governed by both our Board of Management and our Advisory Board, and at any time there are a number of standing committees providing leadership and oversight on various operations, programs and projects. If the Redeemer has begun to feel like a church you could call home, and you’d like to contribute to its direction, please reach out to start a conversation.

Financial Support

Our church and the work that work we undertake relies on the financial generosity of its members, neighbours and supporters. We are called to continue that work and are grateful and humbled by the support you’ve continued to offer. If you are feeling called to contribute financially, we invite you to learn more about ways you can help.
